Premium Speaker Cable

Twist and tangle free payout performance.

Developed in Australia by a team of audio professionals, Tierium speaker cable has been designed to optimise the installation process. Adopting the Reelex™ patented winding pattern, all Tierium products ensure the cable is dispensed from the reel-less box, snag and tangle free for optimum cable payout performance.

Tierium's reel-less design means no moving internal spool for cable to unwind within the box. Tierium speaker cable is made from 99.99% oxygen free annealed copper for superior performance and cable flexibility, while its Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) cable jacket makes it free from unsafe halogens and reduces smoke for added safety in both commercial and residential installations.

  • Tangle and Twist-Free Packaging Technology.

REELEX™ tangle-free technology is a patented method of winding a filamentary product (such as cord, wire, cable or tubing) into a figure-eight coil with the use of a purpose built coiling machine.

This unique coil dispenses from the inside-out without twists, tangles, snags or overruns. As the coil does not rotate during payout, there is no inertia, and thus no need for payoff stands or brakes, and since the coil does not require any moving parts as a means of dispensing the product, it can be packaged in a wide variety of package shapes and materials, or simply placed in a cardboard box.

  • Because the REELEX ™ coil does not rotate, products wound in REELEX ™ do not depend on the package itself to dispense properly. Thus, the package is literally just a container, allowing the coil to be packaged in a unlimited number of designs and materials. This flexibility allows manufacturers to present their products in unique and innovative ways; providing opportunities for product differentiation and competitive advantage.

  • What is LSZH?
LSZH stands for Low Smoke Zero Halogen. It refers to a group of jacket and insulation compounds that do not contain halogens within their chemical makeup.

What are the benefits of having LSZH cable?
LSZH compounds contain no halogens and instead rely on releasing water or other non-toxic compounds in order to put out a flame. As a result, they are safer for both people and the environment.

Where are LSZH cables predominantly used?
LSZH cables can be used anywhere a normal cable can be used. Typically they are of greater benefit in indoor or restricted spaces where their low toxicity in a fire is a great benefit. This means that they often find use in tunnels, offices, exchanges and datacentres.

    What about PVC?
When PVC burns, it releases Chlorine which is now free to combine with hydrogen to form an acid. This acid can burn lungs and eyes of people trying to flee the fire. It can also attack equipment that was not destroyed in the fire. Historical experience has shown that equipment located several rooms or floors away from a small fire can fail many months later due to attack by either halogen acids or salts.

Can I still achieve my Green Star credits with LSZH?
Yes, LSZH cables are suitable for Green Star applications.

  • Direct-burial cable is a UL rating earned once a cable passes insulation water absorption and crush-resistance tests. It also must be PLTC-rated which includes passing the UL 1685 flame test. To make the “direct burial” claim, third-party testing and ratings are necessary to verify that the cable has the mechanical properties necessary to withstand the rigors of being used in outdoor, underground applications.

Constructed almost as if it has its own, built-in conduit for crush resistance, direct-burial cable is thoroughly tested to pass the same mechanical stresses a typical conduit endures. Featuring a rugged jacket, the cable can survive being stepped on, being installed on top of rock or having long-term contact with water—without tearing or negative impact on the performance.

To put it simply: If you don’t want to use conduit in your installation, then using a cable with a direct-burial rating is a must.
